What This Tool Checks

The hub ping tool sends a small ICMP test from the Public DC Hublist server to a public hostname or IP address. It reports packets sent, packets received, packet loss, latency, resolved IP addresses, and bounded raw output for troubleshooting.

When To Use It

Use it when a hub looks offline, after a DNS change, or when you need to compare hublist-server reachability with results from your own network.

Why It Helps Hub Owners

Ping does not prove that a DC++ hub login port is open, but it quickly shows whether DNS resolves and whether the host answers basic network probes.

What To Check

  • ICMP can be blocked even when NMDC, NMDCS, ADC, or ADCS ports are open.
  • Private, local, and reserved addresses are blocked so the tool cannot be used against internal networks.
  • Packet loss can point to routing congestion, provider filtering, or a host under load.
