Traceroute

Trace the route from the hublist server toward a public DC++ or Direct Connect hub and review the hops that answer.

Purpose

The tool runs a bounded traceroute to the public target and lists hop number, hostname, address, latency samples, and the bounded raw hop line.

When To Use It

  • Investigate a route that fails before the hub host.
  • Compare regional paths after a hosting or provider change.
  • Put high ping latency in the context of transit distance or congestion.

Reading The Results

Each responding row represents a router or network boundary along this server's path. A large latency increase can identify a long or congested segment. The final visible hop may or may not be the hub host.

Limitations

Routers commonly hide or rate-limit traceroute replies, so timeouts and missing hops do not prove that the DC++ service is offline. The route from another client network can be different, and traceroute does not test an NMDC, NMDCS, ADC, or ADCS login.
