Purpose Of The Reverse DNS Tool

The Reverse DNS tool looks up PTR records for public IP addresses used by Direct Connect hubs. PTR data can reveal provider hostnames, datacenter naming, or stale reverse records after a server move.

Fields And Controls

Enter a public IP address or hub URL. If a hostname is entered, the tool resolves it first where possible. Private and reserved ranges are blocked.

Reading The Results

A PTR hostname is controlled by the IP owner or hosting provider. It does not need to match the hub hostname, but mismatches can explain confusion during abuse reports, provider tickets, or migration checks.

Common Errors

  • No PTR: Many providers do not configure reverse DNS by default.
  • Old Hostname: The server moved but the provider has not updated PTR records.
  • Generic Provider Name: Normal for VPS and datacenter IPs.
