UfoHub

UfoHub is a historical Windows NMDC hub product associated with the developer name Dracula. The surviving public archive contains trial installers for versions 8.21.3 and 8.21.12, while current hublist statistics observe deployments reporting much newer 25.26.x version strings.

The project has no verified current developer website, source repository, manual, or support channel. DCHUBLIST classifies UfoHub as unsupported because its pinger sessions are disconnected before complete user-list and share statistics are delivered.

UfoHub was distributed, but the surviving packages are trial installers rather than proof of a current maintained release. The article therefore separates archived package evidence from version strings reported by present-day hubs.

Overview And Status

Project Identity

The DCHUBLIST software topic names the product "UfoHub by Dracula." That record is currently the clearest surviving attribution. No project-controlled page has been recovered to explain whether Dracula was an individual developer, company identity, or community name.

Historical software comparisons describe UfoHub as proprietary freeware for Windows with a graphical interface. Those secondary descriptions are consistent with the trial installers, but they do not provide the source, license terms, or internal architecture.

Archived Trial Packages

DCHUBLIST preserves two attachments: UFOHubTrialSetup.zip for version 8.21.3 and UFOHubTrialSetup.8.21.12.zip for version 8.21.12. Both are approximately 3.12 MiB and are labeled as trial setup packages.

The attachments prove that installable packages existed. They do not establish whether a license server, trial period, registration key, external service, or later upgrade is required. Any restoration should be performed without assuming that the archived installer remains fully functional.

Pinger Limitations

DCHUBLIST reported in 2021 that UfoHub disconnected pingers before sending the user list and share information. The pinger could obtain the hub name, software, and version, but not complete statistics.

A later workaround allowed a registered legacy pinger with a username and password to obtain the user count. Shared size remained unavailable. This explains why a public UfoHub record may show software and users while share graphs remain empty.

Version Record

The archived installers use the 8.21.x version series. Current DCHUBLIST statistics report hubs using 25.26.x. No project-controlled release archive has been verified for that later numbering.

The current value may represent a later private build, licensed version, operator modification, or software string chosen by the server. It must not be presented as an official public release without additional evidence.

Current Status

UfoHub remains visible on the network but lacks a verified maintained public project. The available material supports historical identification, pinger troubleshooting, and cautious restoration. It does not support recommending the software for a new public hub.

Operation And Recovery

Handling The Trial Installers

Preserve the original archive and record its hash before extracting it. Run the installer only in an isolated Windows virtual machine with snapshots, no personal credentials, and no unrestricted public listener. Monitor filesystem, registry, network, and service changes.

Do not assume that a successful installation grants a permanent or redistributable license. Keep any displayed license text, trial limitations, registration prompts, and version information with the archive.

Preserving A Live Installation

Back up the complete program directory, configuration, account records, bans, user classes, scripts, certificates, logs, registry keys, and service configuration. Capture screenshots of settings whose storage location is unknown.

Record the exact software and version shown by the application itself. Compare it with the value sent to the hublist. If the values differ, preserve the raw protocol response and do not rewrite the record until the cause is understood.

Diagnosing Listing Data

Missing shared size is a known pinger compatibility issue for the archived product family. Do not treat an empty share graph as proof that users share no data. Compare the hub's own statistics, an authenticated client session, and the pinger result.

If a registered pinger account is used, give it only the permissions required to complete the handshake and user-list exchange. Do not reuse an administrator password for public hublist registration.

Migration

Export users, roles, bans, redirects, welcome text, and operator procedures while the existing installation still runs. A proprietary format may require a controlled conversion or manual recreation on the replacement server.

Do not depend on the trial installers as the only backup. Preserve the working installed files and configuration separately, then test a maintained replacement on another hostname or port.

Verified Resources

The surviving resources are community records rather than a current project site. They should be used for identification and recovery, not as proof of ongoing vendor support.
