YnHub

YnHub is a Windows NMDC hub server for a Direct Connect network. Compatible DC++ clients use the hub to discover users, exchange hub messages, chat, and search. The hub does not carry the actual file transfer between users, so a successful login or visible user list does not prove that two peers can transfer files.

YnHub is not a DC++ client and not an ADC or ADCS server. Choose it only when an existing network requires classic NMDC behavior and its operational limits are understood. A new public service should compare maintained alternatives before adopting an unmaintained server.

YnHub History And Scope

Historical material identifies YnHub as a Windows and Delphi NMDC hub implementation. The original ynhub.org site is not a current project endpoint. This legacy source set includes a DCHUBLIST topic labelled outdated with historical package attachments, which are release records rather than proof of ongoing upstream maintenance.

The DCHUBLIST topic lists several historical archive names, including 1.0.362.898, 1.0.363.723, and 1.0.364.126. Those names can help identify an old deployment, but they do not establish that the archive is suitable for a current public service. Match every configuration example, client expectation, and operating-system decision to the exact build you run.

Operating An YnHub Hub

  1. Record the archive name, displayed version, Windows version, listener port, hub address, and configuration directory before changing anything.
  2. Run the service and its logs under a dedicated Windows account or controlled service identity. Restrict write access to the executable, configuration, user data, and backups.
  3. Expose only the listener ports that the configured hub needs. Test login, main chat, private messages, search, registration, and a real client-to-client transfer from the same network paths that users will take.
  4. Back up the configuration and user data before editing access rules, registrations, scripts, or network settings. Keep a tested rollback copy rather than relying on a remembered change.
  5. Use a non-production client and a non-public test hub for changes. A hub may accept a client while NAT, firewall, passive-mode, slot, or peer availability still prevents transfers.

NMDC Registration And Compatibility

YnHub speaks the classic NMDC protocol. It does not implement the ADC or ADCS protocol family. Use the NMDC specification to understand protocol messages and use a server designed for ADC or ADCS if clients or a hublist require those protocols.

DCHUBLIST publishes YnHub-specific historical registration instructions. Treat that page as source-specific documentation, not as a universal configuration recipe. Confirm that a target hublist still accepts the registration method, protect the hub from unwanted probing, and do not change a security setting merely to make a statistics pinger report more fields.

Security And Troubleshooting

Do not treat a historical ZIP attachment, a forum copy, or a third-party mirror as a current trusted release channel. Preserve provenance, scan and test an archive in an isolated environment, and choose a maintained server when a legacy limitation cannot be safely managed. Keep administrator credentials, user records, logs, and backups away from public chat and untrusted support uploads.

DCHUBLIST notes a legacy key-check setting that can affect whether its pinger retrieves hub information. That setting changes pinger visibility; it is not a general hardening recommendation. When seeking help, provide the exact YnHub build, Windows version, listener port, sanitized log lines, the action that reproduces the result, and whether the problem is hub login, search, or peer transfer.
